The Diet Cycle

Does this look familiar?

Every time you feel like you’re not eating well, or overeating, or feeling out of control, you go on a diet to “fix it”.

But you’re starting to see a trend… the diet never fixes the problem.

Because as soon as that diet ends (or maybe you don’t even make it that far), you’re back to your old ways. Back to overeating, back to “not caring” (even though you do), back to feeling out of control.

This is the diet cycle.

But what I want you to hear is this… it’s not that YOU failed. It’s that diets FAIL YOU.

Your body wasn’t made to diet. In fact, everything about how your body was designed works AGAINST dieting.

So just going on another diet isn’t going to solve your food problems. In fact, dieting makes them WORSE. It’s actually what keeps you stuck in overeating and feeling out of control around food.

Here’s why…

When you diet, your body doesn’t know that your pantry is stocked full of food or that the grocery store is right down the street.

What your body thinks is “We’re in a famine” and “Food is scarce”.

This elicits a cascade of responses in your body that are intended to keep you safe and alive and not starve.

So, your hunger hormone (ghrelin) increases to prompt you to go find food.

Your metabolism decreases so that you don’t spend the precious energy you have too fast (again… because your body thinks you’re in a famine and it’s not sure when food will totally run out).

You start storing more fat… same reason… fat is protective in a famine and helps you stay alive. And remember, your body thinks food is really hard to find right now, it thinks it’s scarce.

So… as you probably can see, this doesn’t set you up well for being successful on a diet. Everything happening in your body when you diet works against your goals of losing weight and not overeating.

So let’s not diet. Let’s do something that will actually work WITH your body.
